Lane End Oasis Centre

The Lane End Oasis Centre is a Youth & Adult skills program, presenting informal training in car mechanics, plumbing, electrical skills, painting & decorating, garden maintenance and numeracy & literacy. The target groups are 16-50 year olds with the intention of providing guidance and mentoring into trade and creative industries.

The programs are over 14 week periods consisting of a weekly two hour session of both theory and practical application. The learning projects and programs will also help the youth through motivating and inspiring the development of their self esteem, confidence and life skills, all of which forms the premise for better community integration and social skills.

Aims and objectives

In broad terms, the Centre aims to:

• create accessible and responsive community learning support provision
• provide a flexible framework and depth required to support the development needs of disadvantaged youth and underprivileged families
• support the local learning programme structure that acts as a gateway to employment
• deliver mentoring and life-skills support and add value to Buckinghamshire County Council Educational strategy and learning partnership network.

Workshop & Events

The programme will focus on creating a contemporary programme of activities, which inspire and mentor individuals into a career path and provide practical skills for life through a development framework that would help them to do the following:

·         Create a foundation of developing self esteem

·         Achieve confidence through skills for life

·         Motivate and support youth into training, education and provide career options

The workshops that are currently available are:

1. Practical Electrical Skills
2. Plumbing
3. Mechanics
4. Painting & Decorating
5. Garden Maintenance
6. Numeracy & Literacy

Program Content

Work with disadvantaged youth from deprived backgrounds over a period of 14 weeks using a flexible training provision and mentoring. 

The structure of the programme is flexible enough to:

1. Offer a menu of dynamic options to capture interest
2. Each student will be assigned a supervising mentor/coach to review and assess the career position and help the student to create a forward plan

 You are very welcome to join us at 7:30pm, usually on the 1^st Friday of each month at the church.  God will mightily bless you.

I produce a prayer bulletin each month for the prayer meeting.  There are usually a few spare copies of these in the church foyer, but I am no longer publishing these on the web for copyright and security reasons.

In Romans 11:29   Paul tells us that the gifts and calling of God are irrevocable.  This verse is often applied to spiritual gifts given to a Christian.  The context, however, is something different entirely.  The context is to do with God’s gifts and calling to the Jewish people.

In Romans 8, Paul declares that nothing can separate us from the love of God.  Yet, at that time, many Jews would be feeling totally abandoned by God and that His promises and covenants with them had been revoked.  Sadly, today, the majority of Christians also believe that God’s promises and covenants with Israel have been cancelled, spiritualised and transferred to the church.

Paul warns us of such arrogance and that this will happen when he says in Romans 11:

18  do not boast over those branches. If you do, consider this: You do not support the root, but the root supports you.

19  You will say then, “Branches were broken off so that I could be grafted in.”

20    Granted. But they were broken off because of unbelief, and you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but be afraid.

At issue here is the very faithfulness of God.  If God makes a covenant, will He keep it or not?  How can any of us believe God will do anything He has said in our lives, including the completion of our salvation, if we believe he has abandoned Israel?

God’s new covenant with Israel states in Jeremiah 31:

35  This is what the LORD says, he who appoints the sun to shine by day, who decrees the moon and stars to shine by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar– the LORD Almighty is his name:

36  “Only if these decrees vanish from my sight,” declares the LORD, “will the descendants of Israel ever cease to be a nation before me.”

37    This is what the LORD says: “Only if the heavens above can be measured and the foundations of the earth below be searched out will I reject all the descendants of Israel because of all they have done,” declares the LORD.

Over the Centuries, we have seen many attempts of the enemy to destroy and obliterate the Jewish people.  The Crusades, The Inquisitions, The Expulsions and Pogroms – many of these led by venerated Christians:  more recently, the holocaust and now Islam, the Palestinians and the Arab Nations.  In order to appease the Arabs, the West, will soon join with them, so that all Nations will, in the end, be gathered against Jerusalem. 

Where does the Church of Jesus Christ stand on this issue?

Zechariah 12:2  “I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that sends all the surrounding peoples reeling. Judah will be besieged as well as Jerusalem.

3  On that day, when all the nations of the earth are gathered against her, I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations. All who try to move it will injure themselves.

Why do we meet to pray for Jerusalem and Israel?  There are many reasons:

1.      Great Britain stands in judgement and condemnation of God, based on the above scripture.  In the 1920s and 30s, God permitted Britain to govern “His land” and create a homeland for the Jewish people.  We immediately gave 77% of it away to Arabs and so mismanaged the rest of it, that there was nowhere for the Jewish people to flee to escape the holocaust.  Our nation has a responsibility for the 6 million who died.  The situation is no better now; Tony Blair, our Prime Minister is in personal danger on this issue.  Meddling in the affairs of Jerusalem and Israel, is opposing God Himself.  Joel 3 v2 also confirms this:

“There I will enter into judgment against them concerning my inheritance, my people Israel, for they scattered my people among the nations and divided up my land.”

Taken with the other ungodly laws that are being passed by this government, can we really expect revival in this country without repentance in the church for both the way our nation has treated and continues to treat Israel, and for the way the church has historically treated the Jewish people?

2.      Genesis 12 gives a great and precious promise:

1   The LORD had said to Abram, ……..

2   “I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your      name great, and you will be a blessing.

3        I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”

In these verses are a promise to Abram, but also a promise to all of us.  A primary means of receiving God’s blessings upon our lives is through blessing the Jewish people:  those whom God has chosen, loved with an everlasting love, given himself in marriage to and who are the apple of His eye.  Yes, Israel has been an unfaithful wife to Jehovah, but she is not abandoned, and even now is being restored before our eyes.   The alternative to blessing is cursing.  This nation and many of its churches are in great danger of being under a curse.

3.      Not only does praying for Israel enable us to touch the heart of God in a way nothing else can, it also helps us to understand exactly what God’s purposes are in the World in these last days.  Major Biblical prophecies are being fulfilled in this generation before our eyes, and much of the church is blind to what is happening.  God is regathering His chosen people in the land of Israel.  Evangelism amongst Jewish people is gathering pace.  Paul again, in Romans 11 v15 states: “For if their rejection is the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?”

Praying for Israel helps us experience that life from the dead.

4.   Finally, last but not least,   God requires it of us:

Psalm 122:6  Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:

Psalm 137:5  If I forget you, O Jerusalem, may my right hand forget its skill.
